Yeah....so, I have this wonderful way of listing things I want to accomplish or starting things but never seeing them thru. This year one of my New Years Resolutions, however vague or lofty of a resolution it is....is to "see things thru". We will see how long this will last. I don't have a great history, obviously, or I wouldn't be here talking about it, but I gotta try.
The Hubs has called me out on this several times, like when I started redoing our bathroom. I managed to stain the cabinets, but never made it past that. The walls were supposed to be painted, I was planning on making a new mirror frame, and new furniture and accessories were to be added. So, I started this project in the Spring of 2013 and only got as far as staining the cabinets. 9 months later.....well the bathroom is still waiting for me! =)

That Magic Number!
Okay, so I've been saying this for about as long as I can remember....."If I can just lose 10 lbs. I'll be happy". I'm not sure why 10 lbs. is the magic number, but it is. I bet I am not the only one that says stuff like this. I have to image that most women have some magic number that they are always striving for. Geez, just last month, I told my husband that I REALLY needed to lose 10lbs......very matter of fact like. His response, "WHY?". You see, I am not over weight, by any means. This time around I had an excuse.
I'm training for another marathon and I've convinced myself that the less I weigh, the less I will stress my legs out as they carry me thru 26.2 miles. Good excuse right! Well logically it is, but, okay, here is the problem......I managed to gain about 5 lbs. over the holiday. Way to buy into your logic Cyndi! Yeah....I have this wonderful way listing things I want to accomplish but never seeing them thru.
With less than 2 weeks to the marathon, it is ridiculous to think that I can still drop 10 lbs. safely, so I am not going to try. Or am I? Okay no, but as of January 13th, I am taking on a challenge with some of my co-workers. My company is hosting a "Biggest Loser" competition. I've joined every year they've offered it, but guess what, I usually get bored about 3 weeks in and stop reporting and trying. One of my goals this year is to "see things thru", so I joined the competition again, and with the help of my friends here at work, hopefully I will complete the challenge, enjoy some friendly competition, and....who knows, maybe I will actually lose that 10 lbs.!

The Skinny on Celluite
Great Article about cellulite.
"Some may think that cellulite and obesity share strong ties, but that’s far from the truth. In fact, body fat isn’t even the primary cause of cellulite. There are several factors that influence the development of cellulite and the extent to which it spreads.
Certain habits are more likely to stimulate the formation of cellulite. These include smoking, lack of physical activity and sitting and standing in on position for long durations of time."
So, at first read, what I am taking away from this is that I need to quite my day job because I SIT ALL DAY LONG! That's why....lol!

Self Proclamed Caffeine Addict's Guide to Staying Hydrated!
I know what your thinking....Advise from someone that subsists on caffeine...whatever. I just hate drinking water. I not a big coffee person. My downfall are soda's and Energy Drinks. Big Red Zero, Cherry Coke Zero, and Monster Absolute Zero are my drinks of choice, but I do my best to at least drink a liter of water a day. I know....still not enough! The only way I can manage even that is if I mix up batch of Sugar Free Hawaiian Punch, Crystal/Wyler's Light, or some other Crystal Light type drink.
Most recently, after running a 10 miler, I became so dehydrated by mile 5 I almost had to drop out of the race. I dragged myself to the finish line, but it was definitely a scary experience. I went beyond the cotton mouth, dry lips and calf cramps. I was doubled over with full body cramps and all but passed out by the time I got home. It was by far my worst running experience ever.
A few weeks later, after a running a 5K ....guess what....I started cramping again. You'd think I'd learn but in true Cyndi fashion, it takes me going through something multiple times to truly get the hint. Immediately after the 5K, I started drinking Nunn. It's an electrolyte drink. But, ugh....it's not too tasty. It did the trick though, and I was glad, because I was running a half marathon the next day.
When ever I host parties, I serve Cucumber Water (cucumber slices in water with ice) or Lemon Water (lemon slices in water with ice). Everyone thinks its sooooo yummy....even the guys, and it is so simple and cheap. Earlier this month when I broke my nose, my husband made up a double batch of lemon water for me, so I could stay hydrated....I was on tons of decongestants and did start getting dehydrated. I honestly don't know why I never thought to make this up for us on a daily basis, instead of the all the Crystal Light type drinks. This was such a refreshing change. I'm not gonna say I liked it over my soda's and energy drinks, but I did drink more water that week than I had in a while. Maybe it was just because it was something different than the same old drink mixes - fruit punch, green tea, etc.... but I drank MORE water.
I guess I need to change things up a little more often and make a batch of "fancy" water, as I like to call it, just to minimize the boredom. I will still drink my electrolyte drinks before long runs, but adding this fun/fancy water can't hurt!I found this on Facebook this morning on 45 Minute Skinny's site credited to Dr Akilah El – Celestial Healing Wellness Center. Thought I'd share.
I think I'll be making up Ms Prissy Sassy Water for our road trip to New Orleans Thursday for Jazz Fest. I just hope I have the will power not to add a little Gin or Vodka!
Here are three fun–and affordable–ways to spice up your H2O:
Ms Prissy Sassy Water
2 liters water
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
12 small peppermint leaves
Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and let flavors blend overnight. Strain the pitcher the next morning and drink all of the flavored water the next day. Bonus: The ingredients in this recipe help de-bloat your belly!
Fruity Hooty H2O
2 liters water
1/2 bunch basil, mint or tarragon
½ cup grapes or strawberries
1 orange peeled
1 cup watermelon
Combine water with the above ingredients in these combinations: Strawberry-orange-basil; watermelon-mint; grape-tarragon. If the fruit requires peeling (such as melons), peel first and then slice; berries and grapes can be used whole. Herbs can be either torn or tossed in whole. Infuse the water in the refrigerator overnight, allowing the herbs and fruits to remain for a more intense flavor.
Lemon Herb Inspired Spa Water
· 6 cups chilled still spring or mineral water
· 12 thin slices cucumber
· 4 thin slices lemon
· 4 sprigs (each 2 in. long) fresh mint, slightly crushed
· 2 sprigs (each 2 in. long) fresh rosemary, slightly crushed
In a 2- to 2 1/2-quart pitcher, combine water, cucumber, lemon, mint, and rosemary. Serve, or cover and chill at least 2 hours or up to 8 hours. Add ice cubes just before serving.

Startng Over Again - The Blame Game!
So here is what happened....
Two months ago I ran a fantastic half marathon touted as "Texas Oldest Half". I even PR'd! And, I was kicking hiney on my 5K pace. Prior to the half marathon I decided to run a 10 mile trail run. How hard could it be, right? I can run 10 miles in my sleep.
Ha! On the open road sure, but the trails worked a number on my ankles. If you know me at all (read my previous post) it should be needless to say that - I hurt myself. The problem is I just didn't know how badly. You see I ran the trail run the weekend BEFORE the half marathon. My left ankle was tender so I laid off it all week and just did yoga and elliptical training. By Saturday I felt fine, so I ran he Half on Sunday. At mile four my foot started hurting. I thought I just tied my shoes too tight and they were rubbing. Nope! My foot was swelling!
Like a good, responsible runner.......I actually stayed off it for 4 weeks so my foot could heal. I even got some fantastic Airrosti Therapy with Dr. Christenson. By week four I felt great, so I got started again...slowly.
One week later....boom - broken nose.
Two weeks after broken nose and six weeks off....I'm struggling to run 3 miles and my shorts are getting tight!
I'd love to blame all my injuries, my doctors, my luck, but the fact remains....the only thing to blame is me. I could have still been in the gym cycling, or (according to my husband) some light weight lifting. And it's not to say that I didn't go some, but I still could have done more to keep my conditioning level up while I couldn't run. I also could have not eaten every thing it sight!
It's hard to break the eating habit though. When I'm running, I "cheat" a lot, but it's masked by the fact that I am burning a ton of calories. It also doesn't help that the MIL left us with a huge bag of Jelly Belly's that I can't seem to get it out of my head every night. It's like they are calling my name...even the ugly Black Licorice and Root Beer Float ones.... ugh!
But alas......it's time to get my jiggly butt back on the wagon. It's time to get my, semi straight again, nose back on the pavement and run. It's time to stop eating junk. No more Jelly Belly TV Snacks even if I have to throw them away....oh the torture!
Pray I don't fall while I'm out running, working out, or just sitting at my desk. Yes, it's happened before! =) NO WHAMMIES!

I'm not Clumsy. The floor just hates me!
So, I'm told that I am accident prone. REALLY?!?! Yeah... no joke. After 5 concussions (or is it six? I can't remember) a broken arm, fractured leg, more ankle sprains and ligament strains then I can count, and now a broken nose, you'd think I'd never leave my house or get out of bed. However, the problem with that is I'd still find a way to hurt myself. Just this past Sunday night, the hubs and I were eating and I cut my thumb open as I tried to break open a crab leg. Nothing like having blood dripping on your plate to work up an appetite!
Bon Appetite!
Thank you Sonya Kraus for the laugh!

I'll start again on Monday!
How did I loose my motivation. I don't know. I just got burnt out. Fracturing my leg and breaking my wrist one year after the next didn't hurt, but I really think I lost my motivation because I set a goal reached it and then realized I didn't have that goal to be my compass anymore. I've been trying to re-set my Due North for like 6 months now. Hrmmm....
Well, I've been saying it for about 5 weeks now. I'll start my new running program on Monday. Well....it's Monday again. I was too lazy to get up this morning to jog. Let's see if i can actually get started TONIGHT!
